Morning! Recently I reported on a new study that found a pretty shocking stat:
7 in 10 people with rosacea also met the criteria for fibromyalgia, a chronic disease characterized by widespread pain, sleep issues, brain fog, and other neurological symptoms.¹
While more research is needed to understand the connection, it’s just another piece of evidence that shows inflammation in the skin is almost never just surface level.
Check out the
full report here, then keep on reading for another study about a surprising habit that may ease inflamed skin.

Collagen supplementation may have even more benefits
I’ve written about collagen supplements pretty extensively in my career. I know a lot about it. And this study, one that analyzed over a decades’ worth of research, surprised even
me.
I used to think that collagen supplements worked by supplying the body with the building blocks of protein (amino acids), so the fibroblasts could keep a steady supply of production. This is true, but it’s also too narrow.
The researchers found that collagen peptides work through several biological pathways, including two breakthrough areas:²
-
Mitochondrial activity: Supporting cellular energy, thereby improving skin cell regeneration and function.
-
Lysosomal activation: As the body’s “clean up crew,” lysosomes recycle damaged collagen to help make room for newer, stronger proteins.
That could reframe collagen supplementation as a foundational cellular health tool, not just some "anti-wrinkle" supplement that it's been pigeonholed.
+ Collagen continued…

Skin snacks: Coffee
Not a snack, but certainly something most adults look forward to every day. Myself included.
Skin care myths will have you believe the morning brew will dehydrate your skin, but research actually shows it can have protective effects—especially for those dealing with inflammation.
-
Looking at a cohort of over 80K adult women, researchers found that those who drank coffee had fewer incidences of rosacea.³
-
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by red, irritated skin.
-
Increasing caffeine intake from other sources (soda) did not have a protective effect.
-
While more research is needed, it may have to do with the high antioxidant activity in coffee.
Just be sure to monitor how you take your coffee. Loading it with sugar and syrups will likely make your drink
more inflammatory.
