The best diet for longevity?
Year after year, the Mediterranean diet is voted the best overall diet.
A new review pulled together the latest evidence and found that people who closely follow a Mediterranean-style eating pattern have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, several cancers, cognitive decline, and even all-cause mortality.¹
The foods responsible for the benefits?
-
Researchers point to the
diet's signature foods: extra-virgin olive oil, nuts, legumes, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and fish.
-
These foods provide fiber, polyphenols, and healthy fats that help lower inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, support healthy cholesterol levels, and protect against oxidative stress.
What’s happening at the cellular level?
-
Emerging research suggests the Med diet supports healthy aging at the cellular level by influencing the gut microbiome, protecting telomeres, supporting mitochondrial function, and affecting gene expression.

Why healthy people have heart attacks
|
|
|
|
Can you exercise regularly, eat well, and still be at risk for heart disease? According to cardiovascular surgeon Jeremy London, M.D., the answer is yes.
On a recent episode of the mindbodygreen podcast, he shares what his own heart attack taught him about hidden cardiovascular risk, the numbers he believes everyone should know, and why heart health is about managing risk—not achieving perfection.

“This is a great recipe from Carloforte, a small town situated on the island of San Pietro, just off the south-west coast of Sardinia. This part of Sardinia has been heavily influenced by the Arab cuisine of Tabarca. People from Liguria, in the north-west of Italy, moved there for fishing purposes, then later settled in Carloforte. This dish, with its rich history, is a blend of traditions and is unique to Sardinian cuisine.”
