Dear ,
For years, I kept myself broke.
Not because I lacked ambition. Not because the work wasn't good. My business was growing. The opportunities were real. But something kept pulling me back, undercharging, second-guessing, walking away from deals that should have been easy.
It took a hypnotherapy session to find it.
I was eleven years old. My English literature teacher was one of the most extraordinary men I'd ever encountered. He made stories come alive in ways I'd never experienced. The whole class adored him. He was also perpetually depressed, struggling with alcohol, barely holding himself together after a painful divorce.
I didn't analyze any of this as a child. I just watched. And somewhere in that watching, my brain made a connection: to be a great teacher, you have to suffer.
I never chose that belief. A confused kid absorbed a pattern from someone he loved, and it ran silently in the background of every financial decision I made for the next thirty years.
That's the thing about the code underneath your behavior. You don't choose it. You inherit it. And until you find it, you can grind on your habits all you want, the code always wins.
