About the specimen

A Piece of the Pleistocene

The Woolly Mammoth first roamed the cold, treeless tundra-grasslands of the North American and European steppes over 400,000 years ago during the Middle Pleistocene. These colossal creatures had the mass of a modern African elephant, over 8 tons and 10 feet tall.

After going extinct on continental ranges roughly 10,000 years ago, isolated populations survived on Russia’s Wrangel Island until perhaps 4,000 years ago.

Each Mammoth Meat specimen is a unique fragment of muscle tissue, varying in size, shape, color, and texture. It is a real piece of an animal that walked the Ice Age, paired with an informational card and the Mini Museum statement of authenticity.
