Andrew Jackson Downing was an important American landscape designer in the early 1800s whose projects can still be seen in Washington DC. Downing wrote that the American dream is “an attachment to a certain spot, and a desire to render that place attractive…”

Mr. Downing believed that “people’s pride in their country is connected to pride in their home. If they can decorate … their homes to symbolize the values they hope to embody, they will be happier people and better citizens.” For Downing that meant a beautiful garden, a wide front porch, and lovely flowers.

Just like Downing, I believe that your home can change your life, and that making it look even a LITTLE BIT prettier can change the way you feel. For me, that means quilts, wall-hangings, table runners, and decor made with love.
