Back in the day, if you were a rich person in Europe you knew exactly how to show off your wealth: oranges! Starting in the 1500s, the wealthy elite began to build special greenhouses on their properties called orangeries, where they could grow orange trees even in cooler climates.

The extravagant Louis XIV of France had an orangery big enough for 1000 trees built at Versailles before construction of the famous Palace at Versailles had even begun. George III of England (before all that trouble with the American Revolution) built the largest orangery in England. It’s so beautiful that today people rent it out for weddings. Even George Washington jumped on the trend and built an orangery at his home at Mount Vernon.

I’ll never be as rich as Louis XIV, but I can stop by our little grocery store here in Hamilton any day of the year and buy oranges (no orangery required) so does that make me an aristocrat?

Capture the sweetness of a fresh orange with this delectable Orange Roll Up!

Fabric Market - Orange Roll Up contains 40 2.5" x 44" strips of fabric. You receive 2-3 pieces of each print. 100% cotton. This orange fabric collection from Robert Kaufman's RK Basics is called Fabric Market, and you'll want to shop these vintage-inspired blender prints all the time! Wouldn’t this make a fresh and fabulous Math Class Quilt?
