Still, operating margin fell 60 basis points to 16.2%, as 100 basis points of merchandise margin pressure was partly offset by cost efficiencies. As industry sales tracked down at a low-single-digit rate in the first quarter, Williams-Sonoma's innovation helped facilitate share gains.
