Dear MoveOn member,
Bad news: MoveOn’s endorsed populist candidate is being outspent—badly—in his Michigan Senate primary election by a flood of cash from corporate and special interests.
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a tireless advocate for Medicare for All who is fighting to transform a political system that benefits the wealthy and well-connected, is being outspent on the airwaves 17 to 1.1 17 to 1.
That’s tens of millions of dollars being spent by special interest groups—including from Big Oil, pharmaceutical companies, and at least $5.5 million by AIPAC’s super PAC—to take down El-Sayed and boost the establishment’s handpicked candidate.2
We can’t let these attacks against El-Sayed go unanswered.
While we don’t need to match the corporations and special interests dollar for dollar, we cannot allow them to control who wins elections.
Will you donate $9 today to power MoveOn’s campaign to mobilize voters and elect El-Sayed and other bold populist candidates who will flip control of the Senate?(If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
-, Dr. El-Sayed is a true fighter for the people with a record of success. He secured free glasses for kids who needed them, removed lead from Detroit’s elementary schools, took on Michigan’s biggest polluters, and spearheaded a program that will cancel up to $700 million in medical debt.3
He has been unfraid to fight for an America we can afford—and has forcefully criticized the U.S.’s support of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. That’s why El-Sayed is backed by Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.4
Democratic voters are standing up against corporate greed and foreign interference in our election. They’ve done so in New York, California, Illinois, and now they’ll make their mark in this Senate race in Michigan.
Meanwhile, his opponent Haley Stevens:
- Supports continued sales of American weapons to Israel’s military.5
- Voted to fund ICE and supported a Republican-led resolution that “expresses gratitude” to ICE agents “for protecting the homeland.”6
- Received $50,000 from a PAC tied to Elon Musk. While other Democrats have re-gifted the PAC’s contributions to charity, Stevens has refused to do the same.7
The choice in Michigan is clear: people vs. profits.
When voters hear who is backing these enormous ad buys, and why, the strategy immediately backfires. So we need to keep up the pressure, expose the billionaires' attempts to rig our elections, and turn out MoveOn members in Michigan.
It’s up to us to drown out the corporate establishment, dark money wing of the Democratic Party that will only benefit the wealthy and well-connected.
Will you donate $9 to MoveOn today to mobilize voters for El-Sayed and MoveOn’s other endorsed candidates? (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
Thanks for all you do.
