After eight tries, the Senate finally advanced a war powers resolution (WPR) rebuking Trump’s disastrous, illegal war on Iran. It’s huge, and here’s how it broke down: Three Republican absences and four Republican ‘Yes’ votes moved the WPR forward. All but ONE Democrat voted yes, too. It was a crucial step toward ending war on Iran — but the work is far from finished. With more votes ahead, we need to go all in to maintain and keep growing our coalition in the Senate. The most important — and fragile — part of any strategy is moments like this, where the stakes are high, and the balance feels like it just might fall in your favor. A key holdout that could tip the scales? Senator John Fetterman. If Sen. Fetterman thinks he can keep taking out-of-touch votes and ignoring the pleas of his constituents — along with the overwhelming majority of Americans who oppose this war — without consequence, he’s sorely mistaken. Accountability starts with showing up, so we’re going to send Sen. Fetterman a message backed by tens of thousands of activists that he and his staff won’t be able to ignore. Every time we pressure our members of Congress, we’re showing up for our values, reminding them we’re paying attention, and holding them accountable. In moments like this, accountability can go a long way toward building the anti-war coalition we, the people, deserve. It’s how we helped build pressure to push Sens. Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski to flip their votes on WPRs, as they joined Sen. Rand Paul in voting yes to buck Trump. It’s how we got Reps. Vargas and Golden to shift in the House, too. And it’s how we sent an incontrovertible, powerful message to the White House last night that can end this war. Fetterman recently told Semafor his reluctance to vote to end the war is “not an extreme view.” He couldn’t be more wrong: New polling confirms that U.S. voters still reject Trump’s war by an astounding 34-point margin.[1] Just 30% think launching a war on Iran was the right decision to begin with. Failing to end a war that has cost Americans $40 billion, and counting, for increased costs on gas and diesel alone? Sounds extreme to us… As an organization dedicated to advancing a safe and just U.S. foreign policy, we’re leading the charge’s our job to ensure Sen. Fetterman and others understand that every time they fail to vote to end this war, they are complicit in its horrific consequences — in the violence that has killed thousands across Iran, Lebanon, and beyond, in the deaths of at least 13 U.S. servicemembers, in the tens of billions of dollars wasted so far. But we don’t work alone. We hope you’ll add your name today: Thank you for working for peace,
