Join your neighbors on July 25 to stand together for justice

Will you RSVP for the day of action on Saturday to demand justice for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián?

Dear MoveOn member,

It's been a little over two weeks since Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ruthlessly shot and murdered two fathers—Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián.1 The two men lived over 1,930 miles apart in two very different cities—Houston, Texas, and Biddeford, Maine. But those communities—their children, loved ones, friends, coworkers, and neighbors—have been grieving in the aftermath of ICE’s chaos and brutality.

We can’t look away or allow the onslaught of ICE’s abuse to numb us to the impact of this violence. We have to be persistent and resolute in our demands for justice.

Since Trump has taken office, ICE has repeatedly violated people’s civil liberties, broken the law, abused our neighbors, and shot more than 23 people.2 And the Trump administration has lied, interfered with local investigations, and failed to hold any agents responsible for these heinous crimes. It's clear: We cannot trust the reports coming out of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the only way ICE will be held accountable is if we collectively demand it.

Join MoveOn members and community partners this Saturday, July 25, for the Justice for Lorenzo & Johan Day of Action. Sign up to find a community action near you.

Family and friends of the ICE agent who shot Johan, David Brouillette, have spoken out about his abusive and violent history, including disturbing details of intimate partner violence and child abuse. With an extensive history of mental illness, Brouillette was initially rejected from the U.S. military because of his background. But he eventually enlisted and after years in the Army his mental health worsened.3

One of his relatives said: “They took someone who was extremely mentally ill and turned him into a killing machine.”4

And then ICE recruited him and gave him a gun.

Brouillette should have never been hired. We can't allow ICE to continue to haphazardly recruit unqualified and aggressive agents en masse to terrorize our communities and kill our neighbors. Your community is demanding justice and safety for all of us. Will you join them and RSVP for the day of action on Saturday and be a part of a nationwide movement?

The Trump administration’s tactic is to sow as much chaos, division, and harm as possible, hoping to distract, overwhelm, and numb us. But we refuse to allow Lorenzo's and Johan’s murders to get lost in Trump's news cycle. We will come together to remember them and to do everything in our power to bring an end to state violence.

ICE is the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in our country and it just received a staggering $70 billion in additional funding last month.5 Our tax dollars are shamefully funding this brutality. And it’s up to us to stop it.

The public deserves to know the truth about the agency's unlawfulness and Lorenzo's and Johan's family members deserve to see justice served. RSVP to join your community this Saturday for a day of action and then share the invite with three neighbors to help spread the word.

Thanks for all you do.
