All Roads Lead to the South is a national day of action for voting rights. The fight for voting right is not over!

You’re invited: May 16 "All Roads Lead to the South" national day of action near you!

Dear MoveOn member,

Black political power and representation are disappearing before our very eyes. With the backing of Donald Trump and the Supreme Court, Republican legislatures in states across the South are aggressively slicing and dicing up congressional districts, erasing Black-majority congressional representation, and diluting the power of Black voters.

Last week, just eight days after the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, Tennessee’s governor signed a new congressional map into law, splitting up the state’s only Black-majority district, spreading those voters across three new congressional districts.1 Louisiana, Alabama, and Missouri have followed suit, with other states rushing to draw new maps in time for this year’s midterm elections.2

Led by Black Voters Matter, this Saturday, May 16, thousands of people from across the South and the country will come together in Montgomery, Alabama, the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, to march and defend the same voting rights that marchers fought for and won in 1965.

And there's a solidarity event near you. "All Roads Lead to the South" is a national day of action for voting rights, calling on people from across the country to rally together again because it is clearer than ever that our work for freedom and justice is far from finished. And our collective fate as a country is tied to our neighbors in the South's fight for justice.

Saturday’s protest is exactly what this moment calls for—uniting together to show that we will not back down, despite the attacks, and to bring attention to this fight, so the rest of the country sees and understands what is occurring in the South. Because these attacks are coming for all of us. We need you now more than ever to be part of this incredible resistance. Learn more and RSVP now!

MAGA Republicans want us to stay on the sidelines, to be immobilized and to stay put. But that’s not how we fight for our freedoms. It’s not the lesson from Minnesota last winter when ICE came to terrorize the schools, neighborhoods, and churches to enact violence and fear. It’s not the lesson from Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham when civil rights activists stood in principled nonviolent resistance to white supremacists.

This day of action is just three days away, and we need all hands on deck to show that people of good conscience won’t be silenced. No matter where you are, this is all of our fight.

Black Voters Matter Fund’s co-founders Cliff Albright and LaTosha Brown describe the critical moment we’re in, saying, "Sixty years after Bloody Sunday, we are once again being called to meet this moment with collective action. The attacks on voting rights across the South are not isolated incidents; they are part of a coordinated effort to weaken Black political power. But we have faced these challenges before, and we know our power. Alabama has always been sacred ground in the fight for freedom, and this moment demands that we rise together once again.”3

The dismantling of the Voting Rights Act by the U.S. Supreme Court last month is a reminder that we have unfinished business, and we won’t let the legacy and progress of the Civil Rights Movement be overturned by Trump and Republicans. This fight is ours and now.

Please join an event near you this Saturday for the “All Roads Lead to the South” national day of action and share this email with 3 friends who could join you. You can sign up and learn more here.

Thanks for all you do.
