Stop Trump’s reckless $1.5 trillion Pentagon plan

As the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) prepares to mark up the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), we’ve got a critical first opportunity to block Trump’s record-breaking Pentagon budget:

The good news? Lawmakers already know Trump’s $1.5 trillion Pentagon topline is a nonstarter — and key HASC members are already racing to stop it. That includes Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), who has introduced an amendment that would CUT the Pentagon topline before the NDAA even reaches the House floor.

This amendment is our first opportunity to derail Trump’s $1.5 trillion war budget, so we’re going all out to rally support amongst HASC members to get it passed. They need to hear from you too.

Congress must use every opportunity to reject this Pentagon budget and invest in what actually keeps people safe. Tell House Armed Services Committee members to pass an amendment that cuts the Pentagon topline!

While working families at home struggle to put food on the table, pay their bills, and cover historically high gas prices resulting from Trump’s illegal war on Iran, funneling even more taxpayer dollars towards weapons and war will do nothing to create true security.

None of that matters to Trump, who has openly stated that he does not “think about Americans’ financial situation.” That’s why Win Without War was proud to co-lead, along with Public Citizen and MoveOn, 80 organizations to demand Congress use every opportunity to reject this Pentagon budget and invest in what actually keeps people safe.[1]

Don’t forget: Last year’s Pentagon budget already topped $1 trillion. Another unnecessary Pentagon plus-up is a recipe for waste, especially when you remember the department has failed EIGHT audits in a row.

Billions more for the Pentagon also begets more violence: an ongoing, historically unpopular war on Iran, boat strikes that have killed 200 people in the waters off South America, and potential attacks against Cuba and strikes in Mexico.

Instead of greenlighting more weapons and war on our dime, momentum is building to choose a different path — crucially, including in the halls of Congress, where the NDAA is being debated now. We don’t have to wait until the floor vote to block $1.5T for weapons and war; we’re digging in NOW to build momentum for an amendment to cut the Pentagon budget during the markup process.

Send a message to HASC members demanding they vote YES on Rep. Moulton’s amendment to cut the Pentagon budget topline.

This year’s fight over Pentagon spending is only beginning. Congress must use any opportunity to reject this Pentagon budget and invest in what actually keeps people safe — and with your help, we’ll remind them at each and every turn.

Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
