Dear MoveOn member,
After months of mass public pressure from across the country, Congress passed a clean DHS funding bill with zero new funding for ICE and CBP.
But now, Republicans in Congress are trying again to ram through $70 billion of our taxpayer dollars to ICE and border patrol, even though these agencies are already sitting on $150 billion in unspent funds and continue operating with no accountability.1 Will you send your members of Congress a letter NOW to demand they hold the line for no more ICE funding?
-, there is no funding emergency for ICE or border patrol.
Republicans in Congress are choosing to pour billions more into mass detention, raids, and family separation instead of addressing the affordability crisis facing everyday working people. Experts estimate that Trump’s deportations could cost the average family an additional $2,150 per year by 2028. Grocery costs could rise from $165 to $195 per week, and the price of a new home could increase by nearly $50,000.2
There is no money in this bill to lower grocery prices, make healthcare more affordable, or help working families get ahead. Instead, Congress is considering spending $70 billion more expanding a mass deportation system that is deeply unpopular with the American people. Send a letter before your members of Congress vote next week on funding ICE over people’s needs!
We’re already seeing how recklessly DHS is spending the money it already has. This week, DHS’s own inspector general launched a probe into the $38 billion warehouse detention program after reports of ICE purchasing warehouses above market value that lacked basic infrastructure.3
Yet despite this mismanagement, Congress is still considering giving ICE and Border Patrol another $70 billion of taxpayer dollars, while families are struggling to afford groceries, rent, and healthcare.
Next week’s vote is critical to rejecting more funding for Trump’s cruel and deeply unpopular mass deportation agenda. Will you send a letter now telling Congress to vote NO on more ICE and Border Patrol funding?
Thanks for all you do.
