Dear MoveOn member,
Jeffrey Epstein's fixer. Trump's personal lawyer. Proud Boys' defender. Trump's outrageous slush fund architect.
If Todd Blanche becomes attorney general, the man who spent years keeping Trump out of prison will be running the agency meant to hold everyone, including the president, accountable to the law.
Tomorrow, Blanche sits before the Senate Judiciary Committee for his confirmation hearing to become attorney general.
Here's why this fight is winnable. Republicans hold a narrow 53-47 Senate majority, and if all Democrats vote no, Republicans can’t lose more than three votes. With Senator Mitch McConnell currently hospitalized, they are already down a vote they can't easily replace. And key Republicans have publicly said they haven't decided how they'll vote, citing real concerns about whether Blanche can serve as the nation's chief law enforcement officer instead of Trump's personal attorney.1
This is close. All it takes is three more Republicans to vote no to stop Blanche. If we fire on all cylinders right now—flooding the Senate with calls and making sure every wavering senator hears from their constituents—we can stop this confirmation.
MoveOn has launched a massive, multifront campaign to bombard key Senate offices with calls, run targeted ads, and mobilize millions of Americans to demand accountability—but we need your help to sustain the fight.
Will you rush a donation of $9 right now to help power that fight? (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
Let's be clear about who Blanche is. He is Trump's fixer, full stop.
He built his career defending Trump in the Manhattan hush-money trial, the federal classified documents case, and the January 6 election-interference case—and he has carried that same blind, corrupt loyalty into the Justice Department.2
Nowhere is that clearer than the Epstein files.
Blanche has led the effort to keep the truth about Jeffrey Epstein's network buried.
Under his direction, the Justice Department has missed deadline after deadline to release the files as required by law.3 Blanche himself has said the Epstein files "should not be a part of anything [the Justice Department does] going forward"—as if the survivors who've spent decades demanding accountability should simply move on because it's inconvenient for the people it might implicate.4
Then there's the money. As acting attorney general, Blanche pushed a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded "settlement" that could have paid out Trump allies and January 6 rioters—people who violently attacked the Capitol—before public backlash forced him to back off, at least publicly.5 He also backed $400 million for Trump's personal ballroom project while families across the country are struggling to afford rent and groceries.6 And he filed an unprecedented legal brief seeking to grant Trump, his family, and his businesses permanent immunity from IRS audits—not for one investigation but forever.7
This is not what an attorney general does. This is what a personal lawyer does for a client who wants to be above the law.
It’s no wonder that more than 1,200 former Department of Justice employees have publicly opposed Blanche's nomination, warning that his appointment would destroy what’s left of the department.8
Every single senator, Republican and Democrat, has a constitutional duty here—not to Trump but to the American people. The Justice Department is not supposed to be a shield for the president and a weapon against everyone else. If the Senate confirms Blanche, they are confirming that the department is the president's shield and weapon.
Please rush a donation of $9 right now to help MoveOn stop this confirmation. We're mobilizing at full force, flooding the Senate with calls, and building pressure on every senator—especially the handful of Republicans who've expressed doubts—to vote no. (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
We can stop Blanche—but only if we make our outrage impossible to ignore.
Thanks for all you do.
