With litter boxes, we focused on comfort and daily cleanliness. With Riko, we wanted to rethink feeding from the cat’s point of view.
Many cat parents want to serve meals with more moisture, but doing that consistently can be hard in real life. Wet food can be messy and inconvenient, and manual rehydration takes time and effort every day. Riko was designed to help make that routine easier to keep up with.

Can Riko Help Cats Get More Moisture? |

Yes! That’s one of the main reasons we built it.
Many cats do not get enough moisture from drinking alone. Riko is designed to make it easier to serve moisture-rich meals more consistently by turning freeze-dried food into fresh-made wet meals automatically.

We chose freeze-dried food because it gives us a better starting point.
It’s widely loved by many cats, easy to store, and more practical for daily use than frozen meals. At the same time, it still needs water to become a more complete wet meal experience, which is exactly where Riko comes in.
Instead of storing ready-made wet food, Riko helps automate the rehydration process at mealtime.

Why Not Just Use Canned Wet Food? |
|
|
Canned food can work well, but it also comes with tradeoffs: storage, mess, repetition, and manual preparation.
Many wet food machines on the market feel more like small refrigerators. They can still be complicated to manage, and cold stored food doesn’t always feel like the right answer for cats.
Riko takes a different approach by preparing meals from freeze-dried food at feeding time.

Will Riko Work With Different Freeze-Dried Brands? |

That’s the goal.
Riko is being designed to work with a wide range of freeze-dried food, so pet parents can keep using the food they already trust and their cats already enjoy.

Can I Customize It For My Cat’s Needs? |
|
|
Yes. In the app, you’ll be able to adjust the water-to-food ratio to better match your cat’s needs and texture preferences.
We’re also integrating popular freeze-dried brands into the app, so it can automatically show the food’s metabolizable energy and provide recommended feeding guidance.
Over time, the app can also help you track your cat’s eating habits more closely, giving you a better long-term view of their routine.

Riko is designed primarily for cats, especially because many cats do not get enough moisture from drinking alone.
That said, small dogs can use Riko too. We’ll share more about compatibility and use cases closer to launch.

When Will Riko Launch On Kickstarter
& When Will It Ship?
|
|
|
We’re planning to launch Riko on Kickstarter in June.
The tooling is already complete, and we’re currently in trial production. If everything stays on track, we expect shipping to begin in July or August.
We’ll continue to share updates as we move closer to launch and fulfillment.

What Does The Battery Add-On Do? |
|
|
The battery gives Riko more flexibility in everyday use. It allows the feeder to operate without being tied to a power outlet, which makes placement easier and gives you more freedom around the home.
More importantly, it can also serve as a backup power source. So if you’re away from home and the power goes out, Riko can keep working without interruption, helping make sure your pet’s feeding routine stays on track.
One battery is included in the Riko Everyday Set, and it will also be available separately as an add-on.

What If I Have More Than One Cat? |
|
|
We know multi-cat homes can be more complicated. That’s why we’re developing an optional identification module that can recognize a cat’s microchip. When the right cat comes over, the feeder opens for access. If not, the bowl will retract.
This module will be offered as a Kickstarter add-on, so you can lock in the best price during the campaign.
Since it follows a later development timeline, it’s expected to ship around six months after the main unit.

We’re planning to offer three package options as below: |

✅ Riko Everyday Set includes the unit plus useful extras for daily use: a cleaning mat to help keep the floor tidy, a care kit with extra desiccants and cleaning supplies, an extra bowl set for easier rotation and washing, and one battery for cordless use or backup power during outages.
✅ Riko Duo includes two Everyday Sets. It’s a great option for multi-cat homes or for sharing with a friend, and it offers the best value.
