Hi Noodelist Friend,
Happy start of the New Year!
Make it twice since Lunar New Year is just around the corner on January 29th - The year of the Wood Snake.
The Snake symbolizes wisdom, growth and renewal. It has the ability to shed its skin, which shows transformation. This is said to make people with the Snake zodiac sign visionaries and good leaders.
I've told the following LNY story before but it always make someone laugh so let's recycle it.
It’s commonly believed that during the year of your zodiac sign, challenges and bad luck may increase.
For instance, in 2014, as the Year of the Horse approached, making it my year since I was born in 1978.
To counteract these potential misfortunes, I heard that wearing red underwear throughout the year is crucial. At that time, I was studying for my MBA in Shanghai with just one suitcase with me.
Eager to follow the tradition, I bought two dozen red underwear from a local market. To my amusement, I later discovered that one only needs to wear red underwear on the first day of the new year — not for the entire year!
Thus, there was no need for my red underwear shopping spree. But for good luck and Taste of Instant Joy, eating noodles is definitely one of the LNY traditions.
