Hi Friend,
Memorial Day is not for cookouts, swimming pools, or hot sales. It's a day of remembrance.
Today we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to this nation over the past 250+ years.
I've visited many sites over my years. From Yorktown to Gettysburg, from Pearl Harbor to Normandy. Many other killing fields still remain to walk. The memorials serve duty for now - Arlington, Korea, Vietnam. The seas of white crosses and etched names in stone remind us of their ultimate sacrifice. I am grateful.
Let's also remember that the cost of war, and preparing for war, is not always visible. Some wounds are carried home. In recent years, the number of veterans and active-duty service members lost to suicide has become a solemn reminder that the burdens of service do not always end when the battlefield grows quiet.
Last year alone, 322 heroes took their own life.
Pause for a moment. Remember those who never came home, and also those who came home changed. Then especially say a prayer for the families who carry the memory of their loss every day.
