Over the years, Treana has built close relationships with artisan partners, earning a level of trust that has welcomed her into their homes, workshops, and daily lives. She has shared meals, listened to family histories, and spent long days watching hands repeat movements passed down through generations. It was through these moments that Obakki Films was born—a way to preserve not only the craft, but the people, traditions, and knowledge behind it.

Obakki Films is a documentary platform dedicated to telling deeply human
stories rooted in craft, culture, and place.

Princess Magnolia and the Golden Breasts follows José García, an 80-year-old blind potter from Oaxaca whose life and work have been shaped by a lifelong belief in mermaids. Inspired by his mother’s stories of the beautiful women said to live beneath the sea, these legends became woven into his craft and his love for his wife, Teresita.

Obakki Films: From Beneath The Turning Wheel

From Beneath the Turning Wheel follows four traditional weavers in Hatay, Turkey, after a devastating earthquake reduces their village to rubble. Returning to their looms, they find comfort in the familiar rhythm of their craft. Thread by thread, they find a path forward—one woven with memory, resilience, and renewal.
