Dear adventurer,
We want to update you regarding the continuation of our Arctic 2026 season with m/v Hondius, and assure you that all steps are being taken to take the flagship of our expedition fleet to even greater heights! In just a few weeks, our most modern expedition vessel will once again return to the seas of Svalbard, taking guests into some of the most spectacular locations on Earth.
Following the recent events involving m/v Hondius, we have, in partnership with Dutch public health authorities, begun a significant cleaning and disinfection process of the vessel that will take several days. In addition to thorough cleaning and inspection by third parties, this process also involves replacing mattresses and linens. We will be sharing further details of our cleaning efforts in the coming days.
As part of our commitment to guest safety and to ensure you feel comfortable during your polar adventure, we have delayed the start of our Arctic 2026 season to complete this deep clean of the vessel. In the words of our CEO, Rémi Bouysset, "Do the right thing, and do things right."
Based on the medical and epidemiological information currently available, including guidance from WHO experts and relevant health authorities, the evidence strongly suggests that hantavirus was introduced before embarkation and did not originate on the vessel itself. However, we have a responsibility to take all possible steps to ensure m/v Hondius exceeds the high standards we set ourselves and our guests expect.
Our first trip of this Arctic season aboard m/v Hondius begins on 13 June, and we can't wait to welcome our guests aboard for a truly special adventure in Svalbard, the kingdom of the polar bear.
Should you have any questions about your upcoming trip aboard m/v Hondius, or you want to book your place on an Arctic voyage this summer, please contact our reservations team or visit our website for more information.
