We're mostly vaccinated here in the studio, and now we are cautiously trying to figure out what comes next as spring edges towards summer in New York. One thing is for certain though, as the temperatures rise we reach for the Injected Linen.
Injected Linen is our most unique and distinct fabric, nature and technology quite literally knit together via a highly specialized warp-knit weft-insertion process. To the best of our knowledge we still are the only brand using this type of process in clothing, and it makes absolutely incredible hot weather pants that wear as cool as shorts. Horizontal slats of linen fibers are knit together via super thin columns of polyester to create a fabric that is technically a knit, looks like a woven and behaves more like a window blind than any traditional fabric. The beauty of it all is the particular balance of opacity and openness it achieves. Very lightweight fabrics tend to open to the air and eye at the same time, the Injected Linen is open to the air but closed to the eye. It's an extremely light and breathable fabric that you can't see through in normal conditions. In other words, it makes the absolute best hot weather pants around.

Perhaps even more important than what these pants do and enable is how damn good they look. The linen has a nice, lightly textured natural look. Black and garment dyed colors are treated differently, both creating beautiful effects. The black is dyed on the roll using multiple dyestuffs to dye both the linen and polyester together creating a shadowy darkness. The colors, however, are garment dyed, a process which dyes only the linen, resulting in a yarn-dyed look and giving the colors a rich depth and beautiful texture. This year we are doing GD Dark Forest, GD Olive Drab, GD Plumsmoke, GD Dry Tan and GD Seascape. Beyond the incredible open breathability of the fabric, this combination of poly warp and linen weft is much less prone to wrinkling than most linen. It can only crease in one direction but in practice what results is a gentle organic waviness to the fabric, perfect for easy summer looks.
