Hey Everyone,

Summer is sitting on the tip of the tongue like ice cream, time to get on top of the shorts game. Here is an OUTLIER guide to the most summery essentials.

LITTLEBIGS
The Littlebigs are our dialed in, short-but-not-too-short short, with a whole lot of room in the top block. The big in the name is the width, these are cut loose and airy. The little is in the inseam, at 6” this is about as short as a loose short can get while still using nice and deep pocket bags. The waist is elastic with a paracord+3Bar inside-outside drawcord system. The pockets are powermesh for extra airflow and allowing them to double as swim trunks. And they come in a whole lot of flavors of fabric.
Futurelittlebigs
The hyper-versatile Littlebigs. Futurecloth is a lightweight and strong workhorse fabric. It can take beating and still look great, dries quickly and stays clean. A traveler’s dream or an every day essential. If you only buy one Outlier short we recommend this one.
Injex Littlebigs
The open yet opaque Injected Linen makes for an even lighter and more breathable short. It’s not quite as durable as the Futurecloth version but the linen adds tons of texture and an amazing summer feel.
Linenfoil Littlebigs
Even lighter still, but a bit less open is the Linenfoil. It comes with tons of crunchy linen texture already baked into the fabric, not for the wrinkle shy. Our favorite bit about this fabric though is how it stiffens when wet, making for a swim trunk that actually stays off the skin when soaked.
DP/Helix Littlebigs
The super dry knit take, perfect for gym and sport use. The DP/Helix fabric combines two types of Japanese polyester to make one of the driest feeling fabrics around. Even at peak exertion this fabric feels dry and refuses to get waterlogged.
Overkill Mesh Littlebigs
The boldly open take. The Overkill Mesh is a heavyweight stretch mesh that walks the line between open and revealing. The open airflow makes it extremely comfortable in heat, but the heavyweight nylon gives it a real protective feel, like a soft take on chainmail.
SEVEN-FIVES
New Way Seven-Fives
The Seven-Fives are the most recent long running line of tailored high performance shorts. The proper waistband means you can dress them up as much as shorts can be dressed up, but the hidden drawcord and flow through pockets mean they double as swim trunks, allowing for one less item in your travel bag. The 7.5” inseam sits modestly above the knee. The workhorse Futurecloth fabric looks great, dries quickly and sheds drama while clocking in at an easy wearing 200gsm.
AIRS
Injex Airs
If the Littlebigs are dialed in short short perfection, the Airs are what happens when you take it further. With the Airs we were able to get even shorter and lighter by removing the pocketbags and using crossover front pockets. This brings it down to a 4.5” inseam, about as low as we can make it while still having functional full sized pockets. An integrated waistband shaves even more off of it all, with the net result being an exceptionally lightweight and open short worthy of the Airs name.
SPLITS
Injex Splitshorts
We’re never satisfied until we’ve gone a little too far though, it’s only then that you can be sure you’ve reached the edge. With the Splitshorts we stripped it down as far as we could imagine (yet). No pockets, raw cut seams and edges to remove even more bulk. Corelesscord instead of paracord to shave a bit more. A barely there 3” inseam, and a classic split side borrowed from old school running shorts. It feels like wearing nothing at all, but the truth is we’re not sure we’ve gone far enough...
BIGGER FUTURES
All that said, the shortest shorts is not necessarily the path for everyone and we’re excited to play with going long again. Stay tuned for the Futurebig10s and Futurebigflowers, the world may be crazy but we still have hope for the future.
