Halloween in New York is now a two week stretch of costumes and candy, and when we emerge from the sugar coma, it’s often when the cooler season truly starts. Time to crawl into the cozy (aka the Awoolyflannel 109s) and break out the hot chocolate.

Wool and polyester are both dry in extremely different ways, and the combination of the two is even drier. Awoolyflannel is a woven and brushed combination of wool and poly that is our absolute favorite fabric for cold and wet weather. Daydry Merino is similar but knit, and while great in the cold and wet, it is even better for cool weather exercise.

Awoolyflannel starts with an intimate blend of merino and polyester spun by Suedwolle, woven and brushed by Albini. The resulting fabric is midweight (250gsm) flannel that oscillates between plushly soft and the good kind of scratchy. More than that though it’s super dry, nicely warm and cozy as fuck. When the weather gets damp and cold, this is the first thing we reach for. Albini are experts in shirting, so it’s no surprise that the Awoolyflannel Boxfords perform the way they do, but the Awoolyflannel 109s were a very unexpected bonus that emerged through simple experimentation. Shirt fabric is always lighter than pant fabric, so a midweight shirting is relatively lightweight for a pant, but the incredible dry feel of the Awoolyflannel makes these an absolute joy to wear in damp weather. A stay at home dream pant that works nicely outdoors as well.

Like Awoolyflannel, Daydry Merino is also an intimate blend of merino and polyester, but is designed to be worn next to skin. The merino here is a deliriously soft 16.5 microns, and knits, of course, are almost always softer than wovens. The magic of the Daydry is that it retains all of merino’s natural performance but holds less moisture and dries faster, making it much more suitable for high exertion activities. The Daydry Merino Longsleeve in particular is great for cool weather exercise, but is soft and lux enough to wear everyday.
