It's Mother's Day, and I want to take that chance to brag about mine.

A few weeks ago, my mom performed one of her final major operas in Guatemala City. Both nights sold out!

I sponsored the production with Paperlike, and I'm proud I got to. But sponsoring was the easy part. She's the one who spent decades earning that stage.

When I was five, I'd hear my mom practice every single day at the piano in our living room. Scales, arias, the same passages over and over. I didn't know it then, but I was watching what discipline actually looks like up close. Not the forced-on-you kind most people imagine when they hear the word. Just caring deeply about something and acting accordingly.

Nobody was making her do it. She kept showing up for the thing she loved, day after day, whether anyone was watching or not.

That's the habit I eventually borrowed to build Paperlike.

So this Mother's Day, I wanted to say thanks to my mom, and to every parent in our community who's quietly shown someone what it looks like to care about your craft.

The full story of how my mom's stubborn, decades-long love built an opera scene in a country that had none is on our blog.
