Hey Milled,

Between the high altitudes, constant sea breezes, and vineyards located on ancient lava flows, Mount Etna is a unique place to make wine. Nobody masters the Sicilian volcano’s conditions better than Giuseppe Russo. Since taking over for his father, Girolamo, 20 years ago, Giuseppe has elevated his family’s estate to the very top of Etna’s quality hierarchy.

Russo’s whites and reds, made from individual parcels of local grape varieties, vividly illustrate the smoky, textural, vibrancy that makes Etna wines so compelling. The new release of some of our favorite wines from Girolamo Russo arrives next week.

The local carricante grape, grown at high altitude in volcanic soils, yields this chiseled, salty, concentrated white wine. It’s on a shortlist of our favorite whites in Sicily today.
This medium-bodied red is made primarily from nerello mascalese. It’s juicy and bright-fruited, with all of Etna Rosso’s hallmark smoky, savory aromatics.
This single-vineyard Etna Rosso - made from a small plot of old, low-yielding vines in an ancient lava flow - is more structured, dark-fruited, and complex.
The top-end red from Girolamo Russo, and the rarest wine in the range. Only 750 bottles are made annually.
Enjoy,
Grant
