If there were an international 30 under 30 for wine, Marta Venica and Mitja Sirk would have been nominated before they were of the legal drinking age here.
This couple from Friuli, a middle-of-nowhere part of northern Italy with exceptional wines, were born to make thoughtful and high-quality stuff. They then worked at some of the greatest restaurants and wineries in the world including Frasca, Eleven Madison Park, Conterno, Chacra, Domaine Dujac, Domaine Roulot, etc etc.

Look for Martissima if you want a red that's a bit like northern Rhône syrah and Beaujolais that's made from just native grapes. It's a sulfite-free wine inspired by Bodega Chacra's Sin Azufre.
Look for Mitja’s bianco if you want a white similar to a light style of Burgundy with crisp and savory flavors similar to grüner veltliner, too.

Martissima, Collio Rosso 2018
Marta Venica literally grew up alongside the vines of her family’s winery, Venica & Venica. The Venicas have been making wine in the cool hills of the Collio since the 1920’s. Though the red wines of Friuli have a reputation for being inky and dark, Marta’s wine is elegant, lively, and bright, with enough weight to still comfort in cooler months. It's a red blend of native Friulan grapes.
Tastes like: Blackberries, White Pepper, Clove

Mitja Sirk made his first wine at 11 years old, under legendary producer Josko Gravner. After six other vintages as well as stints with Conterno, Dujac, and Roulot, Mitja started making wine on his family’s estate in Friuli a mile from the Slovenian border in 2016. He works with the region’s trademark grape variety, friulano, to produce a refreshing white wine that’s a great alternative to Burgundy made in a light style.
Tastes like: Pear, Green Apple, Almond

What is Orange Wine?
Orange wine has been around for many thousands of years, but it only hit the mainstream in the last couple decades. In other words, it’s like kale. And despite its 5000 or so year hiatus, it has come back with a vengeance. We figured we'd do our part and give you some insight as to what it's all about.
