| Friend,
I want to ask you to support Congresswoman Janelle Bynum, and I want to tell you why she's one of the front line members I'm most excited about this year.
I've spent a lot of time lately thinking about what makes someone genuinely effective in public office. And one of the things I keep coming back to is rootedness – whether a person actually knows the place they're fighting for, how they've been shaped by it, how people there trust them because they've earned it over time. That's not something you can manufacture. You either have it or you don't.
Janelle Bynum has it.
She represents Oregon's 5th District, and in 2024 she flipped it from red to blue – one of the only Democrats to do so that cycle – becoming the first Black person to represent Oregon in the U.S. House. That kind of win doesn't come from nowhere. It comes from a candidate who genuinely knows her community and has spent years showing up for it.
Since taking office, she's governed the same way. She's held more than two dozen in-person town halls, because she believes her job is to listen as much as it is to legislate. She introduced her K-30 agenda to expand opportunity through education, jobs, and housing. She secured over $160 million in federal funding for clean water, public safety, child care, and affordable housing in OR-05. These are the kinds of kitchen-table issues that actually shape whether people's lives get better.
Now she's one of the most targeted Democrats heading into this cycle. Her seat could determine who controls the House, and outside money is already moving in to influence the race. The attacks will come.
That's why I'm asking you to split a contribution between her campaign and Win the Era. Janelle Bynum is exactly the kind of grounded, serious, community-rooted leader we need more of in Congress, and she deserves the support to stay there.
