Back in the 2020 presidential race, our campaign adopted the Rules of the Road: ten simple values – respect, belonging, truth, teamwork, boldness, responsibility, substance, discipline, excellence, and joy – that reflected the way we believe in practicing politics.
These principles have stayed with me ever since.
I see them at work in the candidates I choose to support because they lead with integrity and put their communities first. I see them in the organizers, volunteers, and advocates doing the hard work of strengthening our democracy. And I see them in the way people come together to solve problems without losing sight of one another's humanity – or their sense of joy.
