This weekend, we’re putting together four bottles from one of the Northern Rhône producers we’re especially excited about right now: Jean-François “Jeff” Malsert of Domaine de L’Iserand.
Jeff came to winemaking after years running a wine bar in Tournon-sur-Rhône, where he poured and championed producers like Dard & Ribo and Hervé Souhaut. In 2011, he began bringing abandoned vineyard parcels around Sécheras back into production, eventually releasing the first Domaine de L’Iserand vintage in 2017.
Today, the domaine remains small, organically farmed, and focused on wines with freshness and restraint rather than weight. The cellar work stays similarly hands-off, with indigenous fermentations and a mix of amphora, concrete, and older oak depending on the wine.
