FRANCE MAY HAVE FOUND IT'S NEW TEENAGE TENNIS STAR
French tennis may have found its next superstar. Seventeen-year-old Moise Kouame put together one of the breakout performances of Roland-Garros this week, becoming the youngest man to reach the third round of a Grand Slam since Rafael Nadal did it back in 2003. The teenage wildcard pulled off an incredible comeback against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo after nearly letting a two-set lead slip away, eventually surviving a dramatic five-set battle in front of an electric French crowd. At one point he was just two points from losing, but somehow found another gear and closed it out in a deciding tiebreak after nearly five hours on court.
What makes Kouame’s run even more exciting is how quickly he’s rising. Just days earlier, he stunned former US Open champion Marin Cilic in his Grand Slam main-draw debut, and now the entire tennis world is paying attention. The French teenager, who is coached by former world No. 7 Richard Gasquet, has shown maturity, athleticism, and composure far beyond his age throughout the tournament. The comparisons to Nadal are obviously massive, but what’s stood out most is the belief and fight he’s shown in huge moments. Roland-Garros always seems to produce new stars, and this week felt like the official arrival of one of the sport’s next big names.
