Can You Travel With Body Armor?

For U.S. air travel, TSA currently lists body armor as generally allowed in both carry-on and checked bags - just don't wear it through security.

That said, the final decision at the checkpoint rests with the TSA officer. If you plan to fly with armor, pack it cleanly and avoid storing it next to anything restricted or likely to raise unnecessary questions.

In most cases, yes. For law-abiding U.S. travelers, body armor can generally travel with you in your vehicle the same way other personal safety gear can.

The biggest exception to know is New York, which has specific restrictions around buying, selling, transferring, and taking possession of body armor. Federal law also prohibits people convicted of violent felonies from owning or possessing body armor.

This is where you'll need to do some homework. Customs rules allows you to take body armor out of the country as long as you bring it back.
