Rams Land Myles Garrett in Blockbuster Trade with Browns

Probably not the NFL trade news you were expecting today, huh?

The Rams are finalizing a deal to land two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Browns in exchange for Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, 2028 second-round pick, and 2029 third-round pick, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The headline numbers tell you why this is one of the most stunning trades in modern NFL history. Garrett has earned a 90.0-plus PFF pass-rushing grade in each of the past seven seasons, leads all defenders in pressures (622) and sacks (135) since entering the league in 2017, and posted a league-best 0.79 PFF WAR over the past two years. He now joins a Rams team that paced the NFL in offensive EPA per play last season.

The Browns didn't walk away empty-handed either. Verse's 188 pressures through his first two NFL seasons are the most by any edge defender in the PFF era. Plus, they're loading up on more future picks to continue building out one of the youngest rosters in the NFL.

Most Valuable Non-First-Round NFL Draft Picks Since 2016

The first round delivers the headliners, but the franchises that consistently mine late-round gems are the ones building for the long haul. Over the past decade, dozens of players selected outside Round 1 have wildly outperformed their draft slot, and we ranked the 20 best of them by combining draft position, cumulative performance and longevity.

Topping the list: Brock Purdy. Landing a franchise quarterback after the first round is rare enough. Landing one with the very last pick in the draft is a statistical anomaly, but that's exactly what the 49ers pulled off in 2022. Since his debut, Purdy ranks ninth in PFF passing grade, is tied for the ninth-fewest turnover-worthy plays, and boasts a stellar 13.4% career pressure-to-sack ratio. The $265 million extension he signed last offseason might still end up looking like a bargain.

Regression Candidates: 8 QBs Likely to Throw More Interceptions

One year ago, Caleb Williams landed on our interception-regression watch list. His 2024 rookie season produced a net-luck score of +5.7, meaning his six picks came in nearly six below what league-average conversion rates would normally yield. Then 2025 arrived right on cue. His turnover-worthy-play-to-interception rate jumped from 26.7% to 45.0%, and his interception total doubled to 12. The process barely changed. The box score did.

The same correction is coming for someone on this year's list. Probably more than one. Topping it: Matthew Stafford. His 2024 season ranks as the luckiest in our 10-year dataset (+7.3 net luck), and his 2025 (+6.8) ranks third. Stafford generated 21 turnover-worthy throws last year, a total that should translate to roughly 10 interceptions at league-average rates. He threw nine. Defenders dropped another nine would-be picks. A third straight season at the top of this leaderboard would be virtually unprecedented.
