Why Asthon Jeanty Could Be The RB1

It's the last day of June, and training camp for some teams is less than three weeks away. Now is the time to figure out which fantasy leagues you'll be in, knowing you'll add a few more right before the season starts.

Next week is when PFF's fantasy content really ramps up. Every weekday will bring at least one rankings or cheat sheet article and one list on sleepers, breakouts, league winners or players to avoid, plus the return of the perfect draft strategy series.

Until then, there is still plenty to check out, including my piece on high-variance running backs with a chance to finish as the overall RB1. For example, Ashton Jeanty is well positioned for a much better sophomore season. He was held back by the offense and offensive line last season, but on carries with positive yards before contact, he posted the fourth-highest PFF rushing grade among running backs (92.3). Tyler Linderbaum should strengthen the offensive line, and the additions of head coach Klint Kubiak and a new quarterback should help as well.

One risk with Jeanty is how much Mike Washington Jr. could be involved, particularly at the goal line. If the offense is playing well and Jeanty gets the goal-line carries, he could finish with the most fantasy points among running backs. But if the offense isn't clicking, or Washington takes the goal-line work, those who drafted him won't be so happy.
