For most of the PFF era, young quarterbacks needed time. Between 2015 and 2016, exactly two QBs in their first three seasons hit a 75.0-plus overall PFF grade in a full campaign. That's it. Multiple pre-2020 seasons produced just one such name.
Then the floodgates opened. Since 2020, at least three young QBs have cleared the 75.0 bar every single year. Jayden Daniels headlined the recent surge, posting a 90.6 overall grade as a rookie in 2024 and dragging an underdog Commanders team to the NFC Championship Game. Drake Maye followed suit in 2025 with a 90.1 overall grade, and Caleb Williams and Bo Nix both hit 76.9+ while leading their teams to the playoffs.
Something structural has shifted, and Bradley Locker digs into 20 years of PFF data to explain why.
