Week 2 Waiver Wire Targets: Available QBs Start Strong

Week 1 is nearly in the books with Denver traveling to Kansas City for Monday Night Football tonight. But now is a good time to get a head start on the waiver wire for Week 2, which opened up in some interesting ways.

The quarterback position stands out more than usual this week. There are at least four QBs worth adding depending on your situation.

The name I keep coming back to is Jordan Love. He threw 42 times against a solid defense and finished with 387 yards and two touchdowns. Most of the other quarterbacks who had big weeks either faced softer matchups or needed more volume to get there. Love did it efficiently, and he gets the Jets in Week 2, who gave up the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks last season. He's the best long-term option at the position on the wire right now, and he might be the best Week 2 option too.

Beyond Love, there are three more names worth considering before your claim deadline. Tyler Shough threw for 410 yards and three touchdowns in a game that went to overtime — add him now before he comes off the board. Malik Willis ran for a score and showed exactly the rushing upside that made him interesting going into the season. And Bryce Young had the best game of his career against a Bears secondary that was missing three of its starting defensive backs.

Week 1 Usage & Production Report: Top 10 Takeaways

Ashton Jeanty answered the biggest question from the preseason in Week 1. Despite an ankle sprain in late August that briefly raised questions about his availability, he played 77.4% of snaps before garbage time — nearly identical to his rate last season — and finished with 23 carries, 102 yards, six catches and two touchdowns.

That said, there is one detail worth watching. Las Vegas had two snaps from inside the 10-yard line Sunday, and Mike Washington Jr. was on the field for both of them. The Raiders never reached a true goal-line situation, so we don't know yet how Klint Kubiak plans to use Washington in short yardage. If he becomes a goal-line specialist, Jeanty's touchdown upside takes a meaningful hit. He's still an elite talent in a featured role, but if you can sell high after a two-touchdown week, this might be the time.
