When I first started building ProWritingAid, I thought my job was simple: help people become better writers. And for years, that’s exactly what we focused on. Better grammar. Better style. Better stories.

But after 13 years and having talked to thousands of writers, I’ve realized I was wrong. For most writers, their biggest challenge isn’t knowing how to improve a sentence. It’s about finding the courage to write the next one.

That’s a problem I’ve come to believe I can help with. Drawing on my background in psychology and coaching, I’ve spent the last two years deep in research figuring out how writers actually succeed, how they overcome perfectionism, procrastination, and the other challenges they face. That work has become a book, The Writer’s Mind (Hay House, April 2027), and a new framework shaping everything we build here: the ProWritingMethod.

The ProWritingMethod is grounded in decades of research on skill acquisition, habit formation, and self-efficacy that shows that lasting success relies on support at multiple levels.

So, instead of creating tools that only improve the words on the page, we’ve started building tools that support the person writing them across three distinct levels:

I don’t believe great books are written by people who never struggle. I believe great books are written by the people who struggle but learn how to keep going anyway.

That’s what the ProWritingMethod is really about. It’s our commitment to supporting you—not just as someone trying to write a book but as someone who is a writer.
