Gabriella Karefa-Johnson On Owning Her Space, Hidden London Gems & The Rules Of Plane Perfume

In the latest episode of Nose Dive, Refinery29's podcast on all things perfume, in partnership with eos, we're joined by New York-based fashion editor and stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who has amassed a lifetime of memories, experiences, and, naturally, scents from the destinations that have shaped her work. She knows a thing or two about perfume etiquette—when to wear it, where to wear it, and when it might be best to skip it.

"The most egregious thing I ever did on a plane was bring Shake Shack into a six-person cabin," she laughs. "But it was such a learning moment because I realized that fragrance is experienced communally."

It's all about consideration. "I grew from that experience," she adds. "Now I bring a pillow spray—just for the airplane pillow." Lavender, citrus, jasmine—these lightweight, inoffensive scents, delivered in a barely-there mist, stay close to the fabric rather than invading the airspace around you.
One thing she'll never do, though? Shrink. "I'm going to be me wherever I am," she says, and that smells like eos Vanilla Cashmere 24H Moisture Body Lotion, Body Wash, and Body Mist, of course.

Listen to the full episode for her tips on taking up space and creating scent memories wherever you go.
