Mike Tyson and the legendary Catskill Boxing Club founded by Cus D’amato became a perfect pairing brought together by chance. A young Mike left behind a life of crime and violence when, at age 14, he moved upstate from Brooklyn to Catskill, N.Y., where he trained at the legendary boxing gym. In less than a year, Iron Mike was Junior Olympic national champ and on the road to becoming the BMOTP.

The old sage, Cus D’Amato was more than a boxing coach. He was a father figure who added balance and structure to Mike’s life. He was a point of respected authority that had been absent, a disciple of discipline - and he was passing his knowledge to a hungry student.

By the time Kid Dynamite exploded onto the professional scene, Mike was conditioned to attack the opening bell like a lion on a zebra. All that was ever left was a frightening trail of bruised wreckage behind him. Everyone on the planet knew the Baddest Man was Mike Tyson.

Iron Mike became not only the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing's hallowed history, but he became it's most feared when he knocked out Trevor Berbick in 1986. "Fear tends to be like cotton candy," he once said. "It melts upon contact." Many men melted under Tyson's vicious barrage. For the rest of the decade "Iron" Mike transcended culture, becoming boxing's most compelling intrigue since Muhammad Ali.
