Good morning,
Did you wake up this morning with sore or tender teeth?
If so, there's a good chance your teeth were working much harder overnight than you realized.
Morning tooth soreness is often a sign that your teeth have been under stress while you were sleeping. Many people clench or grind their teeth at night without ever realizing they're doing it, and over time that pressure can leave your teeth, jaw, and surrounding muscles feeling fatigued.
Quick fact: Healthy teeth shouldn't normally feel sore when you wake up. Morning soreness is often a sign that something is putting excessive pressure on your teeth while you sleep.
If you've been waking up with sore teeth, here are a few things you can do to help:
🦷 Give your jaw a chance to relax. Try to avoid chewing gum or hard, crunchy foods first thing in the morning if your teeth already feel tender.
💧 Stay hydrated. Dehydration can contribute to muscle tension, and many people unknowingly sleep with a dry mouth.
🌿 Use a warm compress. Applying gentle heat to the jaw muscles for 10–15 minutes can help ease morning stiffness and discomfort.
🧘 Practice a quick jaw relaxation exercise. Throughout the morning, let your lips stay together while keeping your teeth slightly apart. This helps reduce unnecessary clenching during the day.
🪥 Pay attention to patterns. If you're waking up with sore teeth regularly, it's worth finding out why. Persistent soreness isn't something you should simply learn to live with.
