June is here, and camping season is officially underway. Before you pack up and head out, take a few minutes to refresh your setup skills and make sure your SHIFTPOD is ready for the season.

Get Season-Ready

Test Setup

Always do a test setup before your first big trip of the season. Review the setup instructions, make sure you remember the staking process, and check that nothing was damaged last season or during storage.

Quick Reminder

Always stake your SHIFTPOD from the hubs for the best stability and security. Even if it isn't windy, you don't want a surprise gust to send your SHIFTPOD tumbling.

Accessory Check

Do a quick accessory check. Make sure you have all your stakes, tie lines, rainfly, and floor. Check your floor for any holes or worn spots that may need to be patched before your next trip.

Mildew

Mildew is our worst nightmare, and probably yours too. We recommend applying Xanigo's Mildew Preventer every six months as a baseline, or more often if you camp frequently in wet or humid conditions.

If your SHIFTPOD was accidentally packed away damp or stored somewhere humid, inspect it now for mold or mildew spots. Treat mildew immediately with Xanigo's Mildew Stain Remover before it has a chance to spread. We also love Xanigo's Waterless Wash for quick spot cleaning inside.

Important

Xanigo Mildew Stain Remover should only be used on the interior white walls. Do not use it on the exterior, as it can damage the silver coating.

Drying

Our multi-layer insulated fabric is one of the things that sets SHIFTPOD apart, but it does need a little extra care. The inner layers can still hold moisture when the outside feels completely dry.

Even if it doesn't rain on your trip, morning dew, overnight temperature swings, and condensation from your breath can all add moisture. After any trip, set your SHIFTPOD up at home for a day or two in the sun to fully air it out.

Pro-Tip

We like keeping a few DryTote moisture absorbers inside the tent overnight to help with condensation, especially on the ceiling. Add a few to your carry bag during storage to keep things dry between trips.

Zippers

Before the season starts, brush out your zippers and run Zipper Slip through them. A sticky zipper at camp is annoying. A broken one is worse.

If you are heading to a dusty desert festival this summer, bring Zipper Slip with you. Dust is no joke, and continuing to use dirty zippers can break off zipper teeth. Never yank a stuck zipper. You'll regret it.

Broken teeth or damage caused by excessive force or misuse are not covered under warranty.

Weatherproofing

After repeated exposure to the elements, all tents need a little maintenance to help preserve their weather resistance. We recommend resealing the exterior dark fabric trim and corner seams with clear Flex Seal spray. Work the product into the stitching while wearing rubber gloves, then wipe any excess off the silver fabric before it dries. Do not apply seam sealant directly to the silver fabric.

If water is no longer beading off the silver shell like it used to, treat the exterior with 303 Fabric Guard to help restore water repellency. We use an atomizer to apply a fine mist and stretch the product further. Without one, you may need a few bottles to cover the full exterior.

Plumas is one of California's most overlooked national forests. Tucked at 5,200 feet, Bucks Lake has 17 miles of shoreline, sandy beaches, trout and Kokanee salmon fishing, swimming, and boating. In June, the beaches are still relatively quiet, and there are PCT trailheads nearby if you want to stretch your legs after setting up camp. Just three hours from the Bay, but it feels three hundred miles away.
