Of all the ingredients at your disposal, arguably the most powerful is time. No formula, however potent, can clear acne in a single day or soften skin from underneath your sink. A successful routine will have effective tools, sustained (light) effort, high-yet-nuanced expectations, and realistic timelines from the start. Life-changing results are not too much to ask for—it’s just a matter of knowing when to expect them.
|
|
|
Every ingredient works at its own pace, initiating a chemical process within skin which will only show positive change after a period of regeneration. Attempts to rush this organic process—say, using much more frequently than suggested or combining with other active-based treatments—will put skin on the fast track to irritation, not improvement.
Different ingredients make their impact on different timelines. A surface-acting AHA like
Smoothing Solution will have skin clearer and smoother
in a couple weeks. By contrast, retinol—the gold-standard anti-ager found in
Software Update and
Theraplush—works by increasing the rate at which cells turn over, a process
at least three months in the making.

When projecting timetables, the nature and degree of your skin concern comes into play. If you want to buff up for summer and/or clear a few ingrowns, surface-level refinement will emerge
after a couple showers with our physical exfoliant
Buffing Bar.
If, however, you’re treating persistent, entrenched conditions like body acne, KP, or chronic dehydration, skin will need time to regenerate before changes in its appearance will be noted. In these cases, it’s best to spend
the first couple weeks of your new routine on autopilot, avoiding too much skin-scrutiny. Don’t give up early when nothing seems to be happening—under the surface, the process is well underway, and results will become visible in time.

Part of the relief of finally finding your body skin solution is ending the emotional yo-yo of the search: the frustration of flare-ups, the cautious optimism of a new product, the high hopes of initial applications–it’s like an Alanis Morissette song that never ends.
