The Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Hi there,
On May 17th, I joined a team of compassionate women cycling in the annual Tour de Pier charity event in Manhattan Beach, California. I rode in support of patients, survivors and families battling cancer because I had been one of them.
After stepping down from my role leading Rodan + Fields, just when I thought I was ready for a new chapter in my life, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
That diagnosis changed how I saw everything, including how I approached skincare and beauty.
Suddenly, everything I thought I knew became close to irrelevant, and it sent me on a deep exploration of the connection between inflammatory stress, beauty, and longevity. Things the beauty industry had largely ignored.
During my recovery, Dr. Ritu Chopra — my acclaimed Beverly Hills plastic and reconstructive surgeon — and I often shared our perspectives on how inflammation sits at the epicenter of nearly everything that impacts wellness and beauty. We talked about how many of today’s skincare treatments are actually pro-inflammatory and, over time, may contribute to inflammaging rather than preventing it. It became clear to us that it was time to move beyond problem-solution skincare toward a more holistic approach — one that supports beauty through resilience.
Dr. Chopra shared his ideas for a new kind of skincare company. And asked if I would partner with him to build it.
I saw it as a call to action.
What if skincare could support the whole person, not just the surface? Not more steps, but more intentional ones. Smarter formulations built around the science of resilience.
Those questions led to a clear answer: Solvasa Integrative Beauty.
So much for retirement!
