Crush The Week
From Croatia to Washington, USA, the Spartan Championship season is nearly upon us. You put in the work this year, and many of you are making the final tweaks to your taper and nutrition plans, preparing to test an entire year’s worth of dedication on the biggest stages in the world.

When things get this real – especially with so many conflicting opinions and non-backed claims out there – it’s easy to start overthinking the details: Should I increase my carb intake? How can I look the best in my race photos without bonking (yikes)? Should I hop on that viral nutrition plan I saw online?

Luckily, we have the decades-deep intel of hundreds of Spartan champions from past and present at our disposal to help you quiet the noise and do what’s best for you. The truth? As an athlete – especially one putting extreme strain on your stomach and muscular systems for hours on end – your nutritional needs are far different than the average person.

Your “diet” doesn’t need a recognizable name, and the more you complicate what you’re consuming, the more you’re putting your big race in jeopardy. Spartan Ultra Champion Morgan McKay has dialed in this approach over years of on-course experience. Here’s what she recommends.
The Endurance Day Breakfast of Champions:
  • 100 grams of oatmeal with a scoop of peanut butter
  • 50 grams of mixed berries
  • 1 scoop of whey protein powder
