It's one of the first questions people ask, and the honest answer surprises them: most vacation videos work best somewhere between three and six minutes.
Long enough to tell the story. Short enough that people actually watch the whole thing.
Here's a rough guide based on what we see work:
A weekend trip: 2–3 minutes. Enough to capture the highlights without stretching a short trip thin.
A one-week vacation: 3–6 minutes. The sweet spot for most trips. Room for a beginning, a few standout moments, and a satisfying ending.
A two-week trip or a big milestone (honeymoon, anniversary, bucket-list trip): 6–10 minutes.More days, more moments, more of a journey to tell.
A wedding, reunion, or once-in-a-lifetime event: 10+ minutes, depending on how much you want to preserve.
The instinct is usually to go longer. After all, you took a lot of footage, so it feels like the video should be long too. But a tighter edit almost always hits harder. The best moments stay. The filler goes.
What's left is a video people rewatch instead of one they scroll past.
And if you're not sure, you don't have to decide alone. Tell us about the trip and your assigned editor will recommend a length that fits.
