Right now you'd say you remember the trip perfectly. And you do...
Mostly.
You can probably describe the days in order, name the meals, and, of course, tell the story about the thing that went wrong.
But give it six months and that changes without announcing itself. Not the big stuff. The details go first.
What the room looked like.
What your kid said at dinner that everyone repeated for the rest of the week.
The specific sounds and vibe of the place.
You won't notice losing them, because forgetting doesn't feel like anything.
It just feels like remembering less.
The footage is the only thing that holds those. Not the highlights, which you'd remember anyway. The ten seconds of nothing happening in the background, where someone laughs at something off camera.
Which is why unedited footage is a strange kind of trap. You saved it specifically to protect those details, and then you never watch it, so the details fade anyway. The footage exists. The memory still goes.
A finished video is the difference between having the footage and actually keeping the trip.
