Meet the Man Behind the Big Waves

Jojo Roper lives for surf, family, and adventure. Like a few of the SPY+ team riders, Jojo Roper calls San Diego, California home. From a young age surfing has been intertwined with all aspects of his life, a relationship he has carried well into adulthood. He makes his living as a part-time Big Wave surfer and a part-time business owner at Joe Roper's Surfboard Repair. When he's not glassing or repairing boards at the family shop, he spends his time chasing big swells around the world, always plotting to find and surf the biggest waves he can. His passion for surfing is fueled by pure stoke of riding a wave and the thrill of the hunt.

Like a few of the SPY+ team riders, Jojo Roper calls San Diego, California home. From a young age surfing has been intertwined with all aspects of his life, a relationship he has carried well into adulthood. When he's not glassing or repairing boards at the family shop, he spends his time chasing big swells around the world, always plotting to find and surf the biggest waves he can. His passion for surfing is fueled by pure stoke of riding a wave and the thrill of the hunt.

Being a part of the business his dad started over fifty years ago has only strengthened his connection to surfing. He shares, "Nothing keeps the stoke alive like walking out of the factory covered in dust every day. It makes the ocean feel that much better!"

His shape of choice? It depends on the wave. His everyday board is a 5'11 Rusty round tail and a 9'7 Rusty quad for big waves. His favorite SPY+ frame is the Cyrus. Why? For the extra-large fit and classic style. He laughs, "It's the comfiest pair for my big head!"

We're always hyped to hear what Jojo's up to and excited to see where he'll go next. He's a great guy with a killer sense of humor, and we appreciate having him in the SPY+ family.
