ANSI TESTING

ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is the organization that sets the standard for what counts as real protective eyewear. To pass, a frame and lens have to survive a series of physical tests in a lab. Z87 is the base rating, Z87-2+ is the top tier rating. No stamp on the frame, no certification.

IMPACT

A drop ball test at the base level rating. A high-mass and high-velocity test at the higher tier. Lenses cannot fracture, frames cannot release the lens, and pieces cannot detach toward the eye.

OPTICAL QUALITY

Refractive power, astigmatism tolerance, and prism balance are all checked. The lens has to deliver clear, undistorted vision within a measurable, controlled tolerance.

FRAME & CONSTRUCTION

Lens retention under load, frame strength against breakage, coverage geometry around the eye, and at the highest tier, side-impact protection. The frame has to stay together when it counts.

WHY GO THROUGH THE TROUBLE?
