The future Microsoft showed at Build 2026 barely looks like Windows | PCMag

“At Build 2026, I watched from the front row as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella extolled the utility of AI agents for everything from business application development to scientific research in his keynote. But it was the OpenClaw announcements that drew the loudest applause. The highlight of the presentation was a demo in which Microsoft proudly showed off a sandboxed local AI agent repeatedly trying and failing to delete a bunch of user files, thanks to stricter guardrails. The takeaway, of course, is that Microsoft wants you to want OpenClaw-style AI agents on your PC.”

You might want to get Windows 11 Pro now — while the AI is still optional.

Did NASA miss Viking's discovery of life on Mars? | Medium

“Mainstream scientists warn us about false positives, namely misleading claims for interesting signals that are not substantiated by sufficient evidence. Indeed, the job of science is not done when a signal is detected. The discoverers must demonstrate that the signal is statistically significant relative to the noise and cannot entertain mundane interpretations. At the same time, discoveries often emerge out of a fog of uncertainty. They are flagged by anomalies that the risk-averse scientific community initially ignores because of the mental comfort of following the herd. Innovative scientists warn us about false negatives, namely the dismissal of preliminary, intriguing evidence that ushers in an important discovery. The incentive for mainstream debunkers is to minimize mistakes, but their attitude carries the collateral damage of throwing precious babies (signals) along with the unwanted bathwater (noise).”

Cardiologist: 5 things I never do before 9 AM — after 20 years of treating heart attacks | CNBC

“I’ve written before about what I won’t touch after 7 PM. But what we do in the morning may be even more important. Those early hours of the day are when your heart is the busiest. It goes through a daily wake-up cycle: cortisol rises, blood pressure climbs, and heart rate variability drops as your system shifts from rest to ‘go mode.’ Research has shown that cardiovascular events tend to peak during the first few hours after waking. One often-cited analysis found a clear morning surge in heart attacks and sudden cardiac death. So what you eat, drink, and emotionally take on in the morning matters more than most people realize. I can already hear the objections: ‘But I’m rushed, under-caffeinated, and negotiating with toddlers!’ As a dad of three, I get it. Still, after 20-plus years as a cardiologist, there are a few things I just won’t do before 9 AM.”

Your ad blocker didn't retire — it got pushed out. Here's what you do now. | Browse smoother

Chrome quietly changed the rules, and a lot of ad blockers didn’t survive the move. AdGuard did, because it never needed Chrome’s permission in the first place — it works at the app level, which means ads get stopped before they even knock on the browser’s door. Blocks trackers, malware, and the kind of autoplay video ads that should be classified as a noise ordinance violation. Nine devices. One lifetime license. $16. The browser wars are not your problem anymore. [Ad]

In less than a day, God of War Laufey has created one of the fandom's funniest memes | Kotaku

God of War Laufey … has already created one of the funniest fandom jokes the series has produced in its 21 years. … All things considered, 2018’s God of War is a pretty somber game. The strong, silent god of war Kratos isn’t much of a talker, and his son Atreus is so scared of him that he barely talks himself. But at several points, the pair grieves for Faye, as her death has pushed them on the journey they’ve undertaken to scatter her ashes on the mountains of Jötunheim. Throughout both games, they reflect on the promise they made to her before she passed, and it creates some truly lovely moments between the two where they are at least grateful that she can finally be at rest.”

Today’s featured image came from The Futurist reader, @loop_conspiracy!

“This piece shows creativity as something that grows from within. A volcanic core represents raw energy, while flowers and planets bloom from the body as ideas take shape. Music and making act as tools that guide this process, and the diver reflects turning inward to find inspiration. Together, it suggests that creativity comes from both inner reflection and the world around us.”
