Thousands of fans at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Major League Baseball players, and people around the country stood up this month during the MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard to honor loved ones impacted by cancer. INSPIRATIONAL STORY

Kelly

In 2006, Kelly was a 19-year-old college student when she learned she had malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) of the head and neck, a rare soft tissue sarcoma that originates from the largest cranial nerve in the brain. Having to endure grueling cancer treatments during such a pivotal period in her life, Kelly struggled.

To help her through the toughest days, Kelly kept a journal. “I wrote about my fears, pain, and glimmers of hope,” she describes. “Being able to look back and see what I had already endured encouraged me to keep going. Nearly 20 years later, re-reading that journal still grounds me. It’s a powerful reality check.”
