Dear SunMoon Care Family,
Lately, several members of our community have reached out to ask what they can do to support healthy blood pressure naturally.
High blood pressure becomes increasingly common as we grow older. Over time, our blood vessels may become less flexible, while ongoing stress, poor sleep, and emotional tension can place an additional burden on the body.
From my heart to yours, I would love to share a simple movement practice that I personally enjoy: Foot-Circulation Tai Chi.
It takes only three quiet minutes a day, yet it can be a beautiful way to calm the mind, move the body, encourage the smooth flow of Qi, and support the heart.
A Gentle Place to Begin
I recorded a short demonstration to guide you through this calming three-minute practice.

Why Foot-Circulation Tai Chi May Be Helpful from a TCM Perspective
1. It encourages the flow of Qi and Blood through the leg meridians
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Spleen, Liver, and Kidney meridians travel through the feet, ankles, and legs.
Gentle ankle rotations, foot movements, and weight shifting help stimulate these pathways and encourage the smooth circulation of Qi and Blood. From a TCM perspective, this can also help the body transform Dampness and reduce feelings of heaviness or stagnation.
2. It helps soothe the Liver and release emotional tension
Tai Chi has a beautiful way of helping both the body and mind slow down.
As the breath becomes deeper and the movements become softer, Liver Qi may begin to flow more freely. Emotional tightness—especially tension held in the chest, neck, and shoulders—may gradually soften.
This sense of relaxation can be especially valuable for people whose blood pressure tends to rise during periods of stress, worry, frustration, or poor sleep.
Pair Your Tai Chi Practice with a Warm Herbal Foot Soak
In addition to Foot-Circulation Tai Chi, I also recommend a gentle evening foot-soaking routine to help the body relax and prepare for rest.
Why Foot Soaking May Be Helpful from a TCM Perspective
1. It helps guide rising energy downward
In TCM, some people with headaches, dizziness, irritability, facial flushing, restlessness, or a feeling of pressure in the upper body may be described as having "Liver Yang Rising".
Warm foot soaking is traditionally used to encourage Qi and warmth to move toward the lower body, creating a more grounded and settled feeling.
2. It supports the Kidney meridian and the body’s grounding energy
The acupuncture point Kidney 1 is located on the sole of the foot.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this point is often used to help ground rising energy, calm the spirit, and support the Kidney system.
Warm foot soaking gently stimulates the soles of the feet and help the body transition from the busyness of the day into a calmer, more restful state.
3. It allows you to experience the traditional qualities of real herbs
Each of our herbal foot-soaking bags contains more than 10 carefully selected herbal ingredients that have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. These herbs are traditionally valued for helping support healthy circulation, ease tension, calm the mind, nourish Yin, and encourage the body’s energy to move downward.
Soaking your feet with real herbal ingredients allows the warmth of the water and the traditional qualities of the herbs to work together, helping your body feel more relaxed, grounded, and balanced while preparing you for a peaceful night’s rest.
A Simple Evening Routine
At the end of the day, prepare a warm herbal foot soak and allow yourself to relax.
After soaking, practice three minutes of gentle Foot-Circulation Tai Chi.
This combination will help you:
* Release physical and emotional tension
* Encourage healthy circulation
* Feel more grounded and relaxed
* Calm an anxious or overactive mind
* Prepare your body for more restful sleep
* Support your overall heart and blood pressure wellness
Move slowly, breathe naturally, and listen to your body. Even a few peaceful minutes of intentional self-care can make a meaningful difference in how you feel.
With care,
Dr. Laurel
