And does desperately wanting a child necessarily mean that someone will be a good parent to the child they have?

There is always a reason why a person wants something, and most people are deeply unconscious about their reasons for wanting a child.
When those reasons are projected into the future, a parent may create a fantasy overlay about who their child will be, what their relationship will be like, and what needs of theirs will be met.
This can prevent them from having a direct, real relationship with the unique being their child actually is, while also laying the stage for disillusionment.
When reality does not align with that fantasy, the relationship can escalate into emotional abandonment, resentment, control, or neglect.
